SPORTS FIRST AID TRAINING OVERVIEW

The Emergency First Aid for Sport (RQF) qualification, offered by First Aid Academy Ltd, is designed for teachers, coaches, and anyone acting as an emergency first aider in sporting environments. It meets the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, with additional modules covering head injuries, safeguarding, and sport-specific risks. A key focus is helping coaches make informed return-to-play decisions by teaching how to assess casualties using SALTAPS, understanding NGB head injury policies such as Headcase, and recognising when safe participation is possible. Learners gain essential knowledge of first aid responsibilities, casualty communication, obtaining consent, and safeguarding children and vulnerable individuals during first aid training. This course is also highly relevant for forest school first aid practitioners. For more details, please contact us to discuss your training requirements.

COURSE CONTENT AND COMPETENCIES

Participants will practise assessing and managing common sports injuries, including sprains, strains, fractures, and potential spinal injuries, in courses delivered by First Aid Academy Ltd. The course reinforces the structured assessment process for return-to-play decisions, ensuring coaches can confidently evaluate risks following an incident and make informed decisions. It also explains safeguarding protocols, the importance of clear communication, and the ethical responsibilities of sports first aiders. Before attending, learners must complete the RFU HEADCASE E-Learning Modules (Recognise, Remove, Recover, Return) to support their understanding of head injury management. The full course content equips candidates to act safely, responsibly, and effectively within any sports setting.

Great Course. Alan balanced the content delivery very well, keeping it fast paced enough to stay engaged, whilst also covering the content to sufficient detail to give a really good understanding. He was also very flexible about spending less time on content the group was already familiar with, and more time on content relevant to the groups needs.
