First Aid Academy

Set up your own First Aid Training Company

Set up your own ‘First Aid Training Company’ for people undergoing resettlement, redundancy, outplacement or looking for a change of career.

First Aid Academy will support you to set up your own First Aid training Company. We have helped many individuals to gain the skills to set up and successfully run their own training business over the past few years. This system differs from making you first aid trainers in that we will supply you with everything you need to start trading including first aid manikins, business development training and audio-visual equipment.

The Academy works with ITC First Aid Ltd who is our certification body. By working with both these established firms we can set individuals on the road to running successfully money-generating businesses. If you have skills in training or teaching this is an ideal way to make money with little capital outlay and be up and running within 8-12 weeks of the initial induction event.
As well as running your own courses there are opportunities to work freelance for over 100 established training providers.

Cost of this programme includes the following training;
- A valid First Aid at Work Certificate
- Trainer Induction course
- Trainer Assessment Day to gain a First Aid Trainer qualification
- Businesses Development Day
- PTLLS Certificate, Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (basic teacher training qualification required for all trainers by September 2010)

Plus ALL the equipment you would need to run an Emergency First Aid at Work course;multimedia projector, CD of PowerPoint presentations required to run courses, projector screen, master copies of all handouts and assessment sheets, 6 CPR training manikins, 6 kneeling mats, bandage set, 6 face masks, flipchart stand and paper pad, box of pens and labels.

How do I stay qualified and how do First Aid Academy and ITC maintain trainer quality?
Once a qualified Provider you are required to run a minimum of 3 courses per year, keep a log of courses you have trained on, undertake 6 hours CPD annually and keep your FAW certificate up to date. None of these are particularly onerous, however to maintain standards across the trainer network we would also recommend you join your local Cluster group. Providers across the UK are divided up into regional groups known as  ‘Clusters', giving you the opportunity to meet up with other Providers and gain valuable support whilst finding out about mutual marketing opportunities and keep abreast of first aid industry updates. All Providers are required to undergo Internal and External Verification, which is a requirement of the Awarding Body.

What are my commitments to ITC First Aid?
For every candidate on your courses you must pay a Candidate Fee which purchases a candidate pack (manual and certificate) for £12.50. This enables ITC First Aid to register your course, process your course assessments and produce the nationally certified first aid certificate for your clients.

What does First Aid Academy do to support new companies?
Once qualified new trainers are welcome on any other Academy course, for FREE, to help build their skills. This includes specialist course such as Paediatric, Sports and Outdoor courses.
The Academy provides regular FREE training and update days (CPD) for Providers.
You will have access to our network of 100+ trainers nationwide to run courses for you if you are ill, or if you have a big course and need an extra trainer.

Why is this such as great opportunity?
First Aid Regulations changed in 2009. Few Health and Safety Training Companies and fewer businesses have realised what this means for them. The traditional 24-hour First Aid at Work (FAW) course has been supplemented with a new course and most businesses will only be required to attend a 6-hour (EFAW) Emergency First Aid at Work course. This will be a new nationally standardised course. Our business development opportunity will give the skills and equipment to go out and deliver this course.

What income can I make from becoming a trainer?
Companies charge individuals attending an open Emergency First Aid course between £95 per person. With up to 12 participants allowed on each course that's an income of around £1000 per course.

I am interested, what should I do?

Future steps
Once you are skilled and have delivered 1-day Emergency courses you can progress to delivering our specialist courses; Paediatric, Sports, Outdoor, FAW, Motorist, Security etc. To do this you will be required to attend a specific induction course and attend one of the specialist courses you want to deliver, before you can run that course.
